11 Best Battery Mowers for Easy Lawn Maintenance

Battery lawnmowers have gained popularity in recent years. Initially, these cordless mowers were designed for small suburban green areas. But with the latest advancements, they can now cover larger areas on a single charge. Plus, the absence of a cord eliminates the risk of accidentally mowing over a power cord. Today’s battery mowers offer a host of benefits. They are technologically cutting-edge, operate quietly, are eco-friendly, and due to their light weight, they are easy to handle.

I have tested these mowers that are affordable, powerful, durable, easy to operate, and also have a long-lasting battery that makes them the best battery mowers available in the market. Here is what I found

1. Worx WG779.9 40V  (Best Value for Money)

“Small, quiet, light, and easy to use!”– Review by Lisa (Amazon)

Pros

  • Easy to assemble
  • 3 cutting heights
  • Grass bag indicator
  • Foam padded handles
  • Dual port charger
  • 30 litre grass bag
  • Battery power indicator
  • No-pull start – easy and safe
  • Foldable, lightweight, and easy to manoeuvre

Cons

  • Not suitable for large yards (intended for lawns up to 5000-5500 sq. ft.)
  • Does not come with brushless motor
  • Batteries and charger sold separately

What I Think About The Worx WG779.9

Worx WG779.9 is a lightweight and compact cordless lawn mower that is exclusively designed for smaller to medium yards. Powered with a pair of WORX lithium-ion 20V batteries – WG779.9 model. It comes with two 4.0 Ah 20V WA3578 Power Share batteries.

Worx’s patented IntelliCut technology helps you choose between Turbo and Eco mode. Both come with their own perks:

Eco cutting mode, on the other hand, helps you save up on battery and allows longer run time.

Turbo cutting mode offers more torque to power through for tall, weedy, and tough grass.  However, this will drain your battery a lot quicker.

While the mower does its job well, there can be a few things that you would not like. For instance, the security key used to start the mower is a little flimsy. Although it would not necessarily affect your mowing experience, it is important to ensure you do not damage the key.

Also, the grass box is made up of fabric. This makes it foldable and easy to store. You can fold your mower and cover it up with the grass bag. However, being made of fabric, the grass bag can be easily damaged. Also, a plastic box is much easier to clean than a fabric bag.

Another amazing thing to note is that the mower comes with power-share batteries that can be used in other products from Worx 20V tools such as its leaf blower and hedge trimmer.

So, if you are on a budget and are looking for a good quality battery mower for your small or medium-sized lawn, Worx WG743.9 would be a great choice. However, for this price, you only get the mower and would have to purchase the batteries and charger separately which can be a dealbreaker for many.

2. EGO Power+ LM2133 (Quick and Efficient)

“I’m a big EGO fan now!” – Review by Brian (Amazon)

Pros

  • Select Cut Multi-Blade System
  • 45 minutes of run time on a single charge
  • Quick and easy push-button start
  • High-efficiency brushless motor
  • Self-propelled
  • 7-position cutting height adjustments: 1.5″- 4″
  • 1-handed height adjustment
  • 3-in-1 function: mulching, bagging, side discharge
  • LED headlights
  • 50-minute charge time
  • Comes with 5.0 Ah ARC Lithium battery and Power plus Rapid Charger

Cons

  • Only one charger for two batteries
  • A little pricey

What I Think About The EGO Power+ LM2133

EGO Power+ LM2133 cordless lawn mower can be your best bet if you want one that does not take forever to charge. Moreover, it offers a much better run time and an impressive torque which means you can mow your lawn quicker.

This is as close as you can get to gas mowers in terms of power. However, it does have limited run time as compared to gasoline mowers. But it is can be an amazing pick if you are looking for an alternative that is a lot less troublesome.

EGO Power+ BA2800T battery features an integrated battery meter. So, if you have multiple batteries, you can simply know which is one is fully charged without having to set it up in the mower. Also, the mower itself has a battery power indicator that faces directly at you which helps a lot in keeping a tab on the battery life while mowing.

I have found that the lowest blade setting really isn’t low enough that might require you to mow your lawn quite frequently. But with a mower this advanced, sturdy, and powerful, I have actually started enjoying mowing. However, it can be an issue for some people.

Another noteworthy feature is that the lower blade is interchangeable. It offers you to switch between the mulching blade and the extended run time blade. While the mulching blade comes installed as default and is used for regular use, the extended runtime blade offers a nice balance between battery life and cut quality. On the other hand, the upper blade can be used in combination with either of two lower blade types.

The EGO Power+ LM2133 is one of the best battery mowers today. It has a couple of drawbacks and is a bit expensive, but everything it offers easily overshadows it all.

3. Ryobi RY40190 20″ 40-Volt Lithium Ion Battery Lawn Mower

“Works like a dream, better than a gas mower!” – Review by Judy Kearkuff (Amazon)

Pros

  • Comes assembled
  • Cut Height: 1.5″ – 4″
  • Quick and easy push-button start
  • High-efficiency brushless motor
  • Self-propelled
  • Foldable, lightweight, and easy to manoeuvre
  • Cutting Options: Mulching, bagging, and side-discharge

Cons

  • No latch on the battery cover
  • Turning the mower is a hassle

What I Think About The Ryobi RY40190

The RYOBI RY40190 20 Inch comes with a 40-Volt Lithium-Ion battery. Thanks to its brushless motor, the mower increases its speed as it encounters resistance. And it even has extra battery storage so you do not have to return for a new battery. Simply replace your discharged battery with the new one and you can continue mowing effortlessly. The mower can also be folded easily and stored without any hassle.

One of the things I noticed is that the grass bag has a semi-mesh-like fabric on one side, which helps get rid of dirt and ensures that only grass clippings are collected in the bag.

One of the things that annoyed me a little was that it has quite a few things to ensure that the mower is turned on. First, you need to pull back a rod-like handle, push the start button (in a certain way), and then pull the orange brake-like handles for self-propulsion. As soon as you lose the grip of the rod, the mower will turn off. This is also a good thing for old-aged people and kids as they might find the mower a little too powerful and might be afraid that it will run away. Also, getting used to the self-propulsion system takes quite some time.

There might be some concerns for some, but overall, the RYOBI lawn mower is an amazing pick. Although, at around $300 it might seem to be a bit expensive, it truly justifies its price in terms of performance, built, and sturdiness.

4. Makita XML08PT1 18V X2 (Professional)

“This is a professional quality tool that delivers professional quality results!” – review by Joi (Amazon)

Pros

  • Quick and easy push-button start
  • High-efficiency brushless motor
  • Self-propelled
  • Quiet mode setting
  • 10 height settings
  • Cutting Options: Mulching, bagging, and side-discharge
  • Dual battery compartment

Cons

  • Handle cannot be folded for storage purposes

What I Think About The Makita XML08PT1

The new Makita XML08PT1 18V X2 is geared toward professionals and is one of the best battery mowers in the market. This solidly-built, cordless mower has almost all of the moving parts made of metal. The mower has a 3-in-1 design allowing bagging, mulching, or side discharge.

Everything is held in place with screws and bolts, including the handle, which cannot be adjusted or folded without the help of a wrench. This has to be one of this mower’s major and probably the only drawbacks.

One element that caught my attention was the heavy-duty rubber flap at the rear end of the mower. This keeps all the grass clippings away from you while you are walking behind the mower. However, this makes pulling the mower back a little difficult.

One of the most amazing features of this mower is that it has 2 compartments for batteries that can fit up to 4 batteries. And you can control them all through the operator control panel on the handle’s left side.

Moreover, it also lets you adjust the mowing speed from 1.5 mph to 3 mph and can even let you set the motor to quiet mode. With this, the motor speed is reduced to 2,300 rpm from the usual speed of 2,800 rpm.

With its many features, the new Makita lawnmower is a great pick. If you have enough storage space and a huge lawn or are looking for a commercial lawnmower, the Makita lawnmower is probably your best bet.

5. BLACK+DECKER CM1640 40V MAX Cordless Lawn Mower (Basic and Minimal)

BLACK+DECKER CM1640 40V MAX Cordless Lawn Mower

“Mowing the Yard just got Easier” – Review by W.T.Hoffman (Amazon)

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Portable and easy to maneuver
  • Foldable handle
  • Integrated meter in the battery
  • Very quiet
  • Comes with an extra battery

Cons

  • Works only for small lawns
  • Does not mulch and side-discharge
  • Small grass bag

What I Think About The BLACK+DECKER CM1640

BLACK+DECKER’s 40-volt cordless electric mower is a great pick if you are looking for a small and handy mower for your lawn. It comes with an extra lithium-ion battery and works well for lawns around one-eighth of an acre. It is quite lightweight, meaning almost anyone can push it and maneuver it around without hassle. It is easy to carry and can be folded as well.

However, if you have a large lawn, you should consider investing in an extra set of batteries to help you get the work done quickly without the hassle of recharging your batteries. Also, this mower does have shorter battery life. But that seems logical as it is meant for small yards that do not take much time to mow.

I really like how quiet it is. It feels as if you are using a sewing machine. So, for people who have finicky neighbors, this would be a good buy.

However, this is not your heavy-duty mower and would only be suitable for domestic purposes. It will mow your lawn perfectly well. I would recommend that it not be used in hayfields or rough terrains.

Overall, this is a good pick for someone who has just started mowing and is looking for a basic, minimum-effort mower for their small yard.

Also Available: Kit with an extra 2.0 AH Battery

6. Litheli 2X20V(40V) (Small and Quiet)

“I love the fact that it’s very quiet and easy to move.” – Review by Katherine Oddo (Amazon)

Pros

  • Brushless Motor
  • 5 height settings
  • Anti-rust sharpness-retaining steel blade
  • Lightweight
  • Long-lasting battery
  • Extremely Quiet

Cons

  • Small grass bag
  • Not suitable for big yards and uneven surfaces

What I Think About The Litheli 2X20V

This Litheli 2X20V(40V) 13-inch cordless mower is another ideal pick for small lawn owners. This tiny, lightweight mower is efficient and will make mowing easy for you. It might seem to be quite small but it does come with a powerful brushless motor and can cut grass at an impressive speed of 3700 rpm.

Its battery life offers a run time of around 40 minutes, which is more than enough to mow a small to medium lawn. However, it must be considered that the run time also depends majorly on the condition of your lawn.

The mower comes almost fully assembled except for the handle. This is just a single step and is quite easy as well. However, it does have a small grass bag which can be an issue for some. Given that the mower is suitable for small lawns, a small grass bag does make sense.

Another factor worth mentioning is that it might not work well on uneven surfaces. So, if you have a small lawn and even terrain, this could be your best pick.

For me, it did feel quite wobbly as it is extremely lightweight and made of plastic. It would be much better if it were a little sturdy. But overall, it did a great job in mowing the lawn and would prove to be a great buy for people with small lawns.

7. Yard Force YOLMX225300 120V (Powerful and Robust)

“Sturdy high-powered machine – a beast.” – Review by In-AZ (Amazon)

Pros

  • 120v Brushless Motor
  • 3-In-1 Capable: Side discharge, bag, or mulch
  • 5 adjustable speeds to match conditions
  • Big Grass bag
  • Torque-Sense Technology
  • 7 height settings
  • Long-lasting battery

Cons

  • Slow self-propelled speed
  • A little heavy
  • Quite expensive

What I Think About The Yard Force YOLMX225300

This is probably the only mower that offers around 100 minutes of run time. That is more than double compared to other lawnmowers available in this range. And it does not even take long to recharge. All it needs is 30 minutes, and you can begin mowing your lawn.

The mower comes with 2x 2.5 Ah batteries and a 4 Amp fast charger ensuring rapid charging. Other than this, the battery packs also include magnetic handles that offer easy maneuvering.

But besides the impressive battery life, the mower is also extremely powerful, thanks to its high torque brushless motor. It handled tall grass and those rough patches amazingly well. It was also able to sense when there was a need for additional power and when it needs back off and conserve battery to offer a longer run time.

Also, the mower runs the blades and wheels separately so that you can drive the mower without engaging the blades. This is an additional feature. It also comes with a push start button, making it quite user-friendly.

Overall, the Yard Force YOLMX225300 is an amazing lawnmower. So, if you have the money and are looking for a powerful mower, go for it!

8. Husqvarna Automower 115H Robotic Lawn Mower (Luxurious and Hi-Tech)

“Quiet, no fuss mowing that makes my neighbors jealous!”– Review by Stacey H. (Amazon)

Pros

  • Very quiet
  • Runs in the rain
  • Anti-theft system
  • Mows up to 0.4-acre of area
  • Installation included
  • Intuitive mobile app and control panel
  • Boundary wires to keep your robotic hedge trimmers in line

Cons

  • Issues in connecting the mower to the internet when away from home
  • The blade height can only be adjusted manually and not through the app
  • No suction
  • No GPS tracking
  • No Wi-Fi connectivity

What I Think About The Husqvarna Automower 115H

If you want to make your mowing a lot easier and more convenient, you should get this one. Also, Husqvarna has a wide range of options for people looking for a good robotic mower. And since this is their entry-level model, it could be a good start.

The 115H uses a guidewire that helps in creating boundaries for the mower. By installing the guidewire on the side of your house, you can be sure that the mower stays within the required area. Upgraded variants come with two or more guide wires that you can place in different parts and directions of your home.

The auto-mower uses 3 razor blade-style cutters which cuts the grass very nicely. One of the best things about this mower is how quiet it is. If there is no noise in your neighborhood, you can listen to the ticking sound as it cuts the grass. For me, this is quite therapeutic.

The mower takes around an hour to charge completely and also offers the amount of cutting time. The battery in this model has an expected life of 2500 cycles.

Another thing that I liked about the mower is that it can handle slopes well. So, if you have hilly terrain, this would be a great buy.

Also, this is one mower that will grab everyone’s attention. Kids, especially, love seeing this mower in action.

Overall, it is a great lawnmower for someone who does have a lot of time but wants their lawn to be in its best shape. One of the biggest drawbacks is the price of the mower, which can be a dealbreaker for many. However, robotic mowers are usually this pricey owing to the wide range of features they offer that contribute to the user’s convenience.

9. PowerSmart PS76417 Lawn Mower (Easy on Pocket)

“I have already recommended it to several people.” – Review by Kristen (Amazon)

Pros

  • 40 Amp electric motor
  • 3-in-1 versatility
  • 5 cutting positions
  • Foldable

Cons

  • Not self-propelled
  • Not suitable for a bumpy lawn
  • No deck wash for the steel deck

What I Think About The PowerSmart PS76417

Equipped with a powerful brushless motor that offers a speed of 3600 RPM, this battery mower is quite impressive. It can handle tall and tough grass quite easily with its 17-inch steel mowing deck creates. It is good quality, efficient, and durable mower that can help you mow your lawn easily.

However, the mower does have issues with battery life, and the fact that the additional battery is rarely in stock can make things quite annoying. But the battery might not be an issue if you have a small lawn.

I liked that the lawnmower is easy to assemble. Also, it is quite lightweight but does not seem too flimsy or wobbly. It gives a sturdy and tough feeling. It also comes with a good quality grass bag which might be small for some. But, as mentioned earlier, this mower is best suitable for small mowers, making the small grass bag acceptable.

It does not have self-propulsion, which can be a downside, but it is quite lightweight, so pushing it around would not be an issue for most buyers. Overall, the PowerSmart PS76417 is a good and affordable mower.

10. LawnMaster CLMF4015K Cordless 15-Inch (Medium not Average)

“Everything I Hoped For.” – Review by Joel (Amazon)

Pros

  • Comes assembled
  • 6 cutting positions
  • Battery and charger included
  • Foldable
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Small grass collection bag
  • Not very quiet

What I Think About The LawnMaster CLMF4015K

While the marketplace is full of options with either tiny or massive mowers, the LawnMaster CLMF4015K seems to be a great pick for medium-sized lawns. Additionally, this battery-powered 15-inch mower can easily handle those occasional patches of long and tough grass or even those rough terrains.

Also, it is extremely lightweight, making mowing much easier and more convenient. Making U-turns and turning is very easy with this. However, being lightweight, the mower is not wobbly at all. It seems to be quite strong and sturdy, which is quite rare. And it is also quite powerful thanks to its brushless motor technology that make the mower work at a speed of 3500 RPM.

More than this, the battery and charger come along with the tool. And it does not take much time to get fully charged and still offers an adequate run time. With an extra battery, you can even mow a larger lawn without the hassle.

One of the things that bothered me was inserting in the batteries as they do not get locked in at once. This is not a huge issue, but it can annoy some. Other than this, I did not face any issues with the lawnmower.

Also, the grass bag might seem small for some people, especially if you have a big lawn. This would make you empty the bag more frequently and can make your mowing experience less pleasing.

If this bothers you, opt for the 21-inch variant with a 14-gallon grass collection bag. It also has mulch, side discharge, and rear discharge functions.

Overall, this mower is a great pick for medium to large lawns. It is also quite affordable and comes with many features that can make mowing easier and more convenient for you.

11. Greenworks Pro 2501202 80V 21-Inch (Durable and Powerful)

“Awesome mower definitely has the power of a gas mower!”– Review by Glenn S.

Pros

  • Comes completely assembled
  • 7 height options
  • Mulching, bagging or side discharge functions
  • Single lever 7-position height adjustment
  • Comes with 2 batteries (interchangeable with all Pro 80V GreenWorks products)

Cons

  • Not self-propelled
  • The mulching feature is not so good
  • Does not have a rear roller
  • Battery and charger sold separately

What I Think About The Greenworks Pro 2501202

The Greenworks Pro 2501202 is a good-quality, durable, and powerful lawnmower that can easily handle a large lawn and tough conditions. It could easily be considered one of the most powerful cordless mowers in the marketplace.

The mower offers a run time of up to 1 hour, making it suitable for larger yards. The battery also charges up quickly, while the 21-inch blade, along with a brushless motor, makes mowing a lot faster and more efficient.

And it comes with a decent 13 US gallons grass collection bag that works well for medium to large lawns. The mower also features a push start button, making the operation more convenient. And thanks to the vertical storage, you can save up a lot of space in your garage.

One of the issues I had with this mower was that it does not expel the grass properly. You would have to lift it up and shake it to ensure that the grass is not stuck. And since this is not a lightweight mower, that might also be a concern.

Other than that, I had no problem with this mower. And if you are looking for a powerful and sturdy mower and are not on a budget, you should definitely go for this one!
