Mowing the lawn is a chore that most gardeners dread. And this is the reason why robotic lawnmowers have become a sought-after, hands-free alternative to conventional petrol and electric lawnmowers.

With the right robot mower, you would not have to spend your weekends mowing your lawn. Not to mention, it is the best option for gardeners with mobility issues.

The best robot mower will offer you a long-lasting battery, easy maintenance, perfectly manicured lawn, longer cutting time, convenience, advanced and hi-tech features, and more time for yourself.

Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries power robot mowers are guided by a boundary cable that has to be laid around the edge of the lawn to keep the mower in place.

Although this is the basic functioning of a robot mower, the quality, price, features, cutting lengths, battery life, and security are some of the things that need to be considered before picking one.

1. Gardena 15001-41 SILENO City

“Awesome mower for the lazy”

LOC

Pros

  • Hi-tech automated functions
  • Cutting area capacity of 2700 sq. ft.
  • Suitable for all terrains and slopes of up to 35-degree
  • All-weather and terrain construction
  • 2-year manufacturer warranty
  • Very quiet (57 dbA)
  • Run time of up to 65 minutes

Cons

  • Not suitable for larger lawns
  • Some may find the cutting heights too short – 0.78″ (2cm) to 2″ (5cm).

As you might already know, Gardena is one of the most trusted home garden owners. With such a wide array of gardening tools ranging from watering to lawn care, Gardena is renowned for lawn maintenance equipment.

15001-41 SILENO City by Gardena is also a fantastic gardening tool that can make mowing a lot easier and convenient for you. This model is great for small lawns about 2700 sq. ft square feet in size. However, Gardena also offers a similar model that can mow up to 5,400 square feet.

Moreover, you can easily program the mower with the help of the brand’s exclusive Bluetooth app. Once connected, the mower will be able to perform automated functions.

Some of the functions that I liked were EasyApp Control, AutoSchedule, and EasyConfig, which made the mower’s installation relatively seamless.

And the fact that it comes with AI-precise cutting patterns makes this mower even more amazing!

This means that the mower will maneuver itself through the tight spots and narrow passages of your lawn, giving it a clean and tidy look.

The 15001-41 SILENO City also features a spot cutting feature which will ensure that even some of the trickiest spots and areas that are less accessible are also mowed perfectly.

This is a good feature, especially if you have some outdoor furniture or trampolines. This little guy will reach every spot!

Other than this, the mower can run even when it is raining and even slopes up to35-degree. This is because of its all-weather and terrain construction. Apart from all of this, I love how quiet it is. With a noise level of less than 57 dbA, it will mow your lawn without disturbing you.

Once Gardena 15001-41 SILENO City is done mowing the lawn, it will automatically return to the charging station, where it would take a little over an hour to recharge entirely and will be ready to cut again, giving you another hour of run time.

Few people might find that the cutting heights of the mower are way too short. Offering you a choice between 0.78″ (2cm) to 2″ (5cm), this is an apt height for robot mowers.

This is because robot mowers tend to have a more frequent mowing cycle. And while they mow more frequently, they cut less.

Overall, this robot mower is an excellent buy if you are looking for an easy-to-use robot mower for your small yard that helps keep your lawn neat and clean with minimum effort.

2. Robomow RS630

“MAKES YOU THINK ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE”

LOuise

Pros:

  • Easy to install and program
  • Slope control
  • Rain sensor
  • Edge mode
  • Requires little maintenance
  • Child lock
  • Auto stop
  • Anti-theft
  • Quiet (74 decibels)
  • Handles slopes up to 35 degrees
  • Multi-zone mapping
  • Remote control with Bluetooth connectivity

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Battery life is not that great
  • Blades might need to be replaced frequently

Known for mowing ¾ of an acre of grass in an hour, the RS630 is genuinely one of the best robot mowers in the marketplace today.

Although it looks tiny, it can easily mow almost an acre, and that too very efficiently. It will surprise you with its ability to tackle rough surfaces and steep slopes.

Other than its efficiency, its sturdiness is also quite impressive. It is one of the few robot mowers that can handle uneven, bumpy terrains and even the steepest slopes with utmost ease. Whenever it encounters a knotted tree root or pebbles while mowing the lawn, the mower’s blades will automatically shut down and go on to a new path.

Once away from the obstruction, it will start its blades again and get back to work. But this does not mean that parts of your lawn are left unattended. RS630 will most likely return to the spots it has gone and will finish its job.

The mower also comes equipped with rain sensors that ensure halts when the ground is wet. It will return to the dock as soon as it senses rain or wet conditions.

It also comes with remote control and Bluetooth connectivity – a feature that robot mowers usually lack. With this, you can directly set the mower’s schedule, keep a tab on the battery, and have a look while the mower is working in tricky spots.

Another factor that makes this mower a great choice is its wide dual blades and its 22-inch deck. Talking about battery life, it does take around 2 hours to charge its 26V 6.0 AH Lithium Bromide battery completely but offers only about an hour of cutting time.

The mower battery has a life expectancy of around 5000 complete changes, which might last you anywhere between 3 to 5 years, depending on your usage. After this, you may start observing a drop in its performance.

Moreover, it does have an expansive cutting deck which ensures that it gets the job done quickly. This also saves time and battery. So, overall, the battery life might not be an issue for most buyers.

One of the things that impressed me was the accuracy of the onboard calculator. It is spot-on when it comes to giving you an estimated time needed to finish its scheduled mowing. All it needs is the approximate square footage of your lawn, and you will know precisely when you will get a perfectly manicured lawn.

There is also a relatively new feature called the ‘Edge Mode.’ The mower is engineered to ensure that the blades reach as close as possible to the wheels. This increases the cutting swath of the mower. So, with Edge Mode on, the mower mows along the edges of the lawn, ensuring every spot is covered.

One of the downsides of this mower has to be that one needs to replace the blades quite often. And that would be the case only if you wish to maintain the superior quality, laser-sharp blades they offer.

You will get hooked to these blades and ensure that you get the most impressive and clean cut every time. And that quality comes with a cost. So, if you do not mind changing blades frequently, this mower is worth each penny! And the best part is, you can snap on these blades without any help from tools.

Other than this, the GPS is only used for the anti-theft function and not for navigation purposes, making it less efficient.

If these things are kept aside, the Robomow RS630 is a great robotic mower that offers a bunch of unique features and can make your garden look impeccable.

3. WORX WR155

“Perfect combination of functionality and sleek design”

J.R.Wilkins

Pros

  • Very quiet
  • Easy to operate
  • Auto Blade Height System
  • Offers 5 cutting modes
  • Solid docking station
  • Anti-theft protection with alarm
  • Wi-Fi Enabled
  • Cut to Edge Feature
  • Cutting Incline up to 20°

Cons

  • No smartphone application
  • No remote control
  • Battery life could have been better
  • ACS (automotive-grade ultrasonic sensors) feature needs to be improved

Worx WR155 offers some additional features compared to its predecessor – WR150. This model has an auto blade height system, a hose-friendly undercarriage, and a larger battery. The robot mower also offers multiple cutting modes from which you can choose and make your mowing experience even more convenient.

Worx WR155 can mow up to half an acre, which means that it is a good pick for people with small to medium-sized lawns. Also, it is very quiet and even has a quiet mode – 58 dB (standard mode) and 55 dB (silent mode).

I also find this lawnmower relatively easy to operate. One can easily read the menu screen, which also provides relevant information like lawn setup, system settings, diagnostics, and time which can come in handy.

Other than this, the mower was also relatively quick to charge and can run a little over an hour in a single charge which is adequate. Also, the lithium-ion battery is quite powerful and has no issues with mowing in different terrains and tough grasses.

However, one of the things that every robot mower requires is a boundary wire setup, which can be pretty time-consuming. With Worx WR155, professional installation of the perimeter wire is recommended, which means it can also be complicated.

Moreover, it would also increase the mower’s overall cost price. No matter how tricky this initial setup process is, this is an inevitable inconvenience that one needs to get through to enjoy all the perks of a robot mower.

Another thing I missed in this mower is the remote control and app. This is one of the significant downsides of the mower and can be a dealbreaker for many.

One of the reasons people opt for a robot mower is its convenience. And with these features excluded, it can defeat the overall purpose of a robot mower.

And to compensate for this, Worx WR155 does offer exceptional safety features and sensors, which makes it an excellent pick for families with pets and children. So, overall, this robot mower provides a myriad of features that can make mowing a lot easier and convenient for you.

4. Husqvarna Automower 315X

“Best auto-mower ever! Quiet and efficient”

musling

Pros

  • Easy to programme & adjust
  • Anti-theft system with alarm and GPS navigation
  • Voice control
  • High level security
  • Quiet
  • Weather timer with three levels of sensitivity
  • LED headlights
  • Handles slopes up to 40 degrees

Cons

  • Does not cover a lot of area
  • Installation not included

Husqvarna offers some of the best robot mowers, and the Automower 315X is one of their most technologically advanced models. And if you are someone who is looking for a robot mower that will do it all for you and you are not on a budget, this is a mower that you must consider.

And the extra cost is indeed justified owing to all the fantastic features it offers. Although, the worth of this mower is majorly dependant on the unique requirements of your lawn.

The Automower has three free-hanging blades that cut grass well, and on top of that, it is also quiet. I like that it comes with an innovative GPS mowing system that maps the entire lawn before it starts mowing.

It keeps track of where it needs to be cut and is excellent, especially for lawns that have complicated shapes and require particular attention.

It can handle passages as narrow as 60 cm and even tackle slopes around 40 degrees steep. It can also cut around raised beds. However, I did find that it did not trim as neatly at the edges of the beds.

One thing that is standard for all Husqvarna models is its patented guide wire, which does a fantastic job directing the mower back to the docking station.

With the help of this, you can even designate multiple start points for the mower, which can offer better efficiency in case you have a complicated lawn shape.

And while there are quite a few mowers that come with LED headlights, this one flashes whenever a malfunction occurs, making them a lot more functional.

Moreover, it also has a spiral cutting option which is terrific for people who have clumps of grass with faster growth – quite common beneath trampoline or fixed outdoor furniture pieces.

Another feature that grabbed my attention is its weather timer with three sensitivity levels. It adjusts the frequency of mowing based on the rate of grass growth.

This means that you will reduce mowing during hot, dry weather conditions and at the end of the season. With this feature, you would not have to designate different mowing schedules for the mower for each season, making things a lot easier and convenient.

5. MowRo RM24A

“Best entry-level robotic lawnmower.”

mr. pros and cons

Pros

  • Value for money
  • Works well on inclines up to 30 degrees
  • Bump and tilt sensor
  • 9.5 inch cutting width
  • 3 spinning blades
  • Cutting height options (1″ to 2.5″)
  • Brushless Motor
  • Quiet Operation (65dB)

Cons

  • Cannot be controlled via smartphone
  • No GPS tracking

There are quite a few exciting features about MowRo RM24A that make it one of the best robot mowers in the marketplace today. While it offers all the essential functions like any other robot mower, one thing that makes it stand out is its ability to handle slopes and inclines.

So, if you have a lawn with hilly terrain or bumps, you should consider getting this mower.

With this mower, you can be sure that your lawn looks tidy each day, every day. All thanks to its 48-hour cutting cycle. With this frequency, the MowRo RM24A ensures that it cuts little but often maintains the look of your lawn.

You need to put in your lawn size after your program the mower. Then, the mower’s algorithm will take care of the rest.

And if you wish, the mower also lets you choose and set your mowing schedule. With MowRo RM24A, you can pick the exact time when you want it to get to work. And from then, it will mow your lawn at 48-hour intervals.

A rule of thumb for mowing is when the lawn is dry. And thanks to the rain sensors in MowRo RM24A, you can be sure that the lawn is left alone when it is moist. It disengages its blades and returns to the docking station as soon as it senses moisture.

The mower would also return to the docking station to recharge itself when the battery is low.

Talking about safety features, the MowRo RM24A has a protective mowing blade guard that keeps the three razor-sharp blades in place so that you, your pets, and children are safe while you mow your lawn.

It also comes equipped with a bump sensor and automatic safety sensors that can stop the mower and even help it go back if it comes in contact with an obstruction. It also contains if it is lifted off the ground.

One of the things that this mower lacks is that you cannot control it through your smartphone – a ubiquitous feature in robot mowers. Moreover, it does not have GPS tracking. The mower’s lack of two essential elements can be a dealbreaker for many.

However, with such an affordable price tag, this mower can be a steal for people looking for a basic robotic mower. For someone who dreads mowing but still wants to have a perfect lawn every day, MowRo RM24A is the best bet.

6. Worx Landroid M (WR140)

“…well-built and has a range of useful features…”

herman minister

Pros

  • Excellent cutting performance
  • Extremely quiet
  • Includes Wi-Fi and GPS radios
  • User-friendly mobile app
  • Floating deck design

Cons

  • No remote control
  • Not suitable for big lawns

There are a lot of things to like about this mower. Much better than its discontinued predecessor (WG794), the Worx Landroid M (WR140) now comes with GPS tracking, Wi-Fi radios and also works via a smartphone app.

Besides all these features, the mower’s performance is also quite impressive. It gives a nice and neat cut while also being quiet.

The mower functions using a spinning disc with three rotating cutting blades, which helps it to offer a reasonably narrow 7-inch cutting width. However, this works fine as it is meant to mow smaller lawns about a quarter acre in size.

Also, it is easy to program and simple to maneuver. This is major because of its floating deck design, making it easier to mow on hilly terrains and slopes.

It even gives you an option to choose from various cutting heights that range from 1.5 to 3.1 inches. You can easily adjust it with the help of a big round dial located on top of the mower.

There is a cover at the rear end, which you can lift. Underneath this cover is the battery compartment, a USB port that you can use for updating firmware, and a compartment for the ‘Find My Landroid’ module, which offers the mower its GPS capabilities.

Also, there are a couple of charging blades located on the right side of the mower. This connects with the base station when the mower is parked.

The mower is powered by a rechargeable, power share 20V/4.0Ah battery. Thus, you can use it with other Worx 20V cordless power tools. So, if you have hedge trimmers, edgers, and weed whackers from the same brand, this would come in handy.

Other than this, I like that the mower also has a nine-button control panel with a 2.5-inch LCD, making operation a lot easier.

Overall, the Worx WR140 is a real mower and would be a fantastic option for people with small lawns looking for an easy-to-operate robotic lawnmower.

7. Husqvarna Automower 430XH

“This mower will change your life giving you more free time to do other things.”

justin w

Pros

  • Easy to operate
  • Handles long and thick grass
  • GPS capability
  • Long-lasting battery life
  • Compatible with virtual assistant technology
  • Works under rain
  • Comes with 9 replacement blades

Cons

  • Very expensive
  • May not come with the latest firmware update

Thanks to its eclectic range of highly advanced robot mowers, Husqvarna has managed to bag another spot on the list. And if you are on the lookout for a mower that connects to your smartphone, is easy to control, offers GPS capabilities, works under the rain, and has a long-lasting battery, this is it for you.

This is a mower that would not even require you to step on the lawn. It will start mowing your lawn with a simple voice command through Amazon’s Alexa or Google Home.

And once done, it will drive itself back to the charging station to refill its battery. Yes, mowing has gotten this effortless. It might look small but can handle large lawns with thick grasses and even hilly terrain.

One of the most hi-tech features of this mower is that it maps your garden limits and edges with the help of the data it gets from satellites. This can save up both time and battery by ensuring it does not go to the spots it has already covered.

However, a few spots need a little more care and attention, owing to the length, thickness, and type of grass. But with Husqvarna 430X, you do not have to worry about it.

Its sensors automatically observe if an area does not match the rest of the lawn and adjust its mowing pattern accordingly. This way, you will always have a perfectly manicured lawn.

Another fantastic feature of this mower is handling slopes of up to 45%. And this is possible even when it has been raining, and the ground is slippery. It also does not demand a lot of maintenance.

All you need to do is flip the mower after turning it off and then check each of the three cutting blades and the circular plate. It would help if you were sure that it was not broken and sharp enough. And if you encounter any issue, the mower comes with nine replacement blades so that you can easily replace it when necessary.

Buyers have observed that the mower may not always come with the current firmware update. But the good thing is that the update is included in its two-year warranty.
